Generally, I have a bit of an aversion to chain establishments. That being said, most times that I head to Brewsters, I am pleasantly surprised.

One thing I especially love about this restaurant group is that it brews its own beer. I’m a sucker for a good microbrew.

As is typical with most chains, the menu offers an array of options from burgers to pizzas to sandwiches, etc. I was in the mood for something lighter this week, so I decided to try the Blackened Steak Salad ($15.99).

A sliced seven ounce flat iron steak with an intense marinade sits on top of a generous portion of fresh greens and vegetables, including some chopped banana peppers (somewhat of an odd addition) but it all worked.

The crumbled goat’s cheese on top helped mellow out the spiciness of the steak.

It was good. I’ll be back!
