The Commissary is worth visiting.

Its minimalist, but sweet corner space and intriguing menu makes for a lovely meal in Leslieville — one of the hottest neighbourhoods in the city of Toronto right now.

A large bowl of creamy Corn Chowder and Chorizo ($4.50) tastes just like corn off the cob with butter.

Comforting, but a little bit flat, it just needs a nudge of seasoning to reach perfection status.

Handcrafted Shrimp Flatbread ($11) features a thick teardrop-shaped crust topped with mozzarella and tomato sauce, studded with garlic shrimp, cherry tomatoes, goat cheese and fresh tarragon. Decadent, no?

But the star of the meal happens to be a salad.

Watercress, Jicama & Granny Smith Apple Salad (Main $7/Side $5) is enlivened with a bodacious honey and apple cider dressing and sweet and spicy almonds.

With a menu featuring everything from Lobster Bisque, Curried Shrimp & Melon Salad and Butter Chicken Flatbread, you’re bound to find something of interest to whet your appetite at The Commissary.
